Only Looked Good

My cousin treated us to an expensive restaurant for her birthday. We were thrilled as there were a lot of raving reviews of the place. We ordered a meat lover set and it looked and smelt beautiful. Surprisingly although it did taste good it was too oily. Two of us who were eating it actually felt sick and nauseas because of too much oil. Have you ever been disappointed by food? It looked good and smelt good. I was so sure it would be the best but it wasn’t.

I am often disappointed in restaurant food. These days I rarely aea out as I can do better at home. I can prepare things just like the way I like it. No disappointment!

@flapiz I don't cook anything at home. I eat everything uncooked, mostly fruits and vegetables. This is my food consumption for today. 1 small melon A huge bowl of grapes Some bananas (6) A huge salad with squash, tomatoes, 1 lettuce, 1 hot pepper.

Well it’s great that you’re enthusiastic with cooking. As for me I can’t be bothered with the dishes so I only do cook once in a blue moon.

I get disappointed if bread is stale.

Sometimes it is stale despite it not being expired. We must check it’s tightly sealed.

It is always so disappointing when you eat something that looks so good, only to find out that the food is bad or mediocre.

You’re right. Usually they come hand in hand. Specially when the smell seems to reinforce the look.

didn't you write a complaint about the oily food? i think there are suggestion boxes near the counter.

I don’t like complaining but since we didn’t finish our food the waitress asked us if there was any problem. And my cousin’s friend was honest enough to say he feel sick because it’s too oily.

Yes, a lot of times. But it’s more disappointing if the food is on the expensive side and you just get an average-tasting food, poor customer service, etc.

Exactly. For cheap food I would not be so disappointed. It’s cheap. But hey if you’re going all out and fine dining it should really taste exemplary.

That is exactly the term for this. Expectations versus reality.

I rarely take a chance now when eating out unlike when I was younger and more adventurous, I now read reviews and ask friends before spending hard earned money.

We did our homework and read the reviews. But the reviews were unreliable. I can’t believe people were raving about it.

Are you the type that complains or do you just never ever come back?

A few times I've been out and the food hasn't lived up to the reputation. I wonder if I was just unlucky or too picky!

I mean are the people just giving good reviews because it’s an expensive restaurant. Where are their sense of tongue?

On occasion, yes. Always a huge disappointment when it happens, especially if you paid a lot for it.

Exactly! The main point we are eating is because we want to “taste” goodness. We are not just paying to watch it.
