Today my sister came at 5 for a cup of tea. One thing led to the other as the conversation grew and she said that there were some subjects that she could only talk with me.
One of them was some of the books we read when we were kids. And we both remembered En famille by Hector Malot, The Rosary by Flrence Barclay and the several Sandokan books by Emilio Salgari.
We did not have many toys when we were children, but we always had more books than any other child I knew. That was very important for our later lives and is a source of joy still now.
My sister left in a hurry to see if En Famille was in the Gutenberg project.
. I washed the cups to set them again for the tea with my Tuesday friends, Marta and Hector.
Were you a bookworm when you were a child?

I am rereading it there online. I chose the French version as the English translation is very bad. The Spanish translation I read as a child was much better.

@LadyDuck True. But I had red En famille when I was a child and, of course, in Spanish. But the Spanish translation, according to my memories, was very good as compared to the English version.

@marguicha I usually prefer to read the original versions of the book, most of the time, the translation are not the same thing, too many phrases are different, they do not reflect what the author really wanted to say.

Yes, I love reading when I was a kid. The picture above seems a classic.
