I am an emotional person but more than that, I am also an emotional eater!
After going to Walmart, the public library and finally to Tom Thumb for donuts and a cold cappuccino, we went to a local Church's chicken and I got a 2 piece spicy mixed and my wife got a 3 piece special. I can't believe just how much emotional eating I have been doing these past few days.
We had pizza from Domino's for two days and now it's fast food spicy fried chicken and to top it all off, I just had a chocolate brownie from yesterday's brunch from Domino's.
Are you an emotional eater? If so, does eating sometimes quell your stress and make you calmer?

If I am stressed out and eat chocolate, I get acid indigestion and heartburn from it. It is a lose lose situation for me to have chocolate when stressed out and heartburn creates it's own feedback loop.

@CarolDM , I have to curb my chocolate intake. Some days I go for chocolate in my coffee. They call it mocha cappuccino but actually salted caramel is the best and it is a good substitute for chocolate in coffee I think. But cappuccinos are not something I drink regularly.

Strange how that works. It would seem that some people, like myself, eat when stressed and others like yourself, lose your appetite. Stress, in any case is a bad thing and stress needs to be somehow made to be less intense. Meditation, calmness, comfort and being in the company of people who show support is often a way to deal better with stress.

Desserts are my weakness usually. I've craved them when I wasn't really hungry, but just for emotional comfort. I've also just overeaten ( at meal time) for emotional reasons too. I rarely do that now. In fact, now I usually eat less when I'm stressed.

Not eating when stressed is another symptom of emotional eating. Guilt is the reason people sometimes punish themselves by doing that and then they will eventually succumb to binge eating. Poor sleeping habits, lack of sleep due to stress related insomnia can lead to overeating too.

There are times when I am stressed out I tend to overeat. But I am trying to control myself now since I have health issues.

Very true. For everyone, with health issues, stress and overeating are both serious matters and I am glad you are trying to control yourself with your diet. I too have been struggling with stress and overeating. I have a notion to go on an oatmeal once a day diet.

I tried that, not eating breakfast and only having a coffee. It messes with my energy and anxiety so I feel better even to eat a little bit at breakfast even if I am not in the mood to eat anything.

It really all depends on why I'm in whatever mood I'm in to eat or not to eat. If I'm mad I'm not going to eat but being sad I will.
