Here's the Problem With Sites That Pay For Comments

Here's the problem with sites that pay for comments. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy social blogging communities where you can earn for your activity. I'm glad they were created. I hope they never shut down!! I like that you get paid not just for posting but for commenting too. But even though I get paid to comment, I don't just want to say words that amount to a minimum of 25 characters just so I can earn that “half a penny”. I view my commenting as if I'm actually having a conversation with a pal. It makes it more fun that way. I wish everybody had that view. Because it really bothers me when I see a comment like the one below, especially when it's a really interesting discussion. I almost want to report it. But I don't! I can't be the site police! I only report things are a really really bad! Still! These kind of comments bug me!! “Cool I like it very good ok bye”. If you count, that phrase, it is 31 characters. If your comment is less than a certain amount of characters at this particular site (25 characters, I think), it won't even post. Isn't it obvious the person commenting just wants to type in enough characters so they earn a half a penny? Now imagine they do that at almost all of the posts they visit! It's irksome. Rather than report the crappy comment what I do is, since the site has Like buttons, when a person visits my post and leaves a nice comment, I give it a Thumbs Up. OK. That's my grumpy old lady complaint for today. Moving on.

It's always better to say something meaningful on the topic of discussion. When we do this we have a discussion and that's what makes these sites interesting.

Yes! Sometimes if the discussion is too philosophical some people will just leave a cool or awesome dude response!! I've often just left my catch phrase "awesome!!!" as a comment!!!

@db20747 We can say "Awesome" but then it's good to give an explanation on the why it is awesome.

An annoying problem. They do it because they can get away with it. The site is such a nice site but there will always be people who take advantage or try to game the system. It might affect the site and eventually cause the site to shut down. It happens.

I spend the time necessary to read posts and to leave meaningful comments. If the discussion is not interesting I move on. I do not report meaningless comments, but I do not reply and I do not like.

Sometimes short comments are better. What is the problem with short comments? If someone wished a nice day what could I say? I have to do a short comment.
