morphine, six more injections in the head, gas and air and yet more hospital drama yesterday

I went to the hospital again. My impression was they would look at the dressing. When the doctor tried to do this I SCREAMED. As soon as the infection was touched it hit 10 on the pain scale. I always wondered what 10 felt like.
So they gave me morphine.
Then the doc tried to inject the anasthetic.
I saw the needle and syring and it was huge.
Two injections were painful but on the third, I SCREAMED. This was off the richter scale of painful.
So the doctor decided to give me gas and air only he said it had to be nitrous oxide and oxygen,
The nurse brings and tries to give this from an empty cylendar.
So they say there will be another up in five minutes. In about half an hour the doctor comes and says they sent pure oxygen so he had to send it back.
The porters get it wrong again,
By now I am asking the friend with me if this is in fact a dream.
They try again and get it wrong.
Several hours later we finally have the right cylendar but now the doctor says the anasthetic from the first three injections has worn off.
So now I have to have the gas and air and three more injections before they can yet again drain what they say is an abscess behind my ear.
Still high on gas and air they say I can go home. I am so glad I have a lift as really, getting the bus is the only thing I could have done otherwise and I do not think I would have made it. (2 buses in the dark and one only comes once an hour at night.)
I have been sent home with codeine and it says take two pill not one like before. I have to return Monday and if all is not well, they will do a scan.
The friend who came with me has a huge bandage on her thumb and has had an operation on it in the same ward.
I have now had 12 injections in the head in the last week. Two times drained an abscess and am so full of anasthetics in and out of the vein I do not know which way is up.
I keep hoping this is all a bad dream but I guess I should just be grateful I am in a country where treatment is free and was in one of the best hospitals in the country.
They left the wound open to heal and I think the bandage is coming off.
I am not up to much so mylotting is a good way to pass the time.

It was and is. Hopefully things are calming down now and tomorrow will be a better hospital visit.

It all does seem backwards, but I think they try to do the least invasive thing first. This was antibiotics via a drip and to be fair, from the outside it looked like this was clearing things up. It was a surprise to both me and the doctor that I had a need for further help. Even then, they and I were both expecting yesterday was just to remove the dressing and ensure all was well. It was not till they tried to remove the dressing anyone realised what was happening and then not really till I screamed that the extent of the infection revealed itself. The nurse was quite embarrassed to have given me the empty gas cylendar, I had the impression they had to find another and it was coming from maternity. First time the porters brought pure oxygen which was wrong as it had to be oxygen and nitrous oxide, then heaven knows what kept happening. Unfortunately, it was by then, Friday night so staffing levels may have been low. The reason not to do the scan may have been the timing and also the assumption things were not as bad as they were. On Monday, if things are not cleared up a bit, I will have a scan. They won't do a general anasthetic on me except as a last resort as I have had respiratory problems and there is more risk involved. Notwiithstanding, the scan would have shown the problem up. Just now how they do things it seems.

@Jackalyn You know it's always difficult for a doctor to decide to start with a scan when it seems there is only a small infection that can be treated locally. I hope it will clear and you need no further injections or invasive procedures. An anesthetic with a respiratory problem could be a problem. I hope you feel better today.
