Why can't all bathrooms have two separate switches for lights and ceiling fan?

I have three bathrooms at home.
The one in the basement has a switch for the light and a separate switch for the ceiling fan.
I'm calling it a ceiling fan but maybe I am wrong.
It's that square thing on the wall, though it can be on a ceiling too.
The other two bathrooms don't have that, so when I turn on the light the ceiling fan turns on automatically.
It's very annoying, especially when I just woke up and not fully awake yet or I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
If one bathroom has two separate switches why can't the others have that as well?
It makes no sense to me.
I should be able to turn on the ceiling fan when I want or need it and not have it on all the time... when I turn on the lights.

That's probably not cheap to do.

It's probably an exhaust fan and they just want to make sure that it is switched off when you go out of the bathroom, that is why they integrated it with the light switch.

Good thing we don't have a ceiling fan in our bathrooms. But in my parents house they have a wall fan on one side. But it has its own switch though.

What I am talking about is not the type of fan that you turn on when it's hot...

Yes. I am renting out my parents' house and it has three bathrooms.

You could have an electrician do some rewiring.

I'd be tempted to do it if I owned the house but I don't.
