After reading all of John Roberts' great escapades about his recent vacation travels I thought I would take a look at my own hometown. (And yeah, I'm trying to convince John he needs to come this way and hook up with Lori & me here and JJ in [relatively]nearby Olney on one of his trips!). I'm doing this in two parts: places I have been, and places I haven't. Here's the first place. #10: Thomas Edison House Sheesh, where didn't Thomas Edison live?! I remember going to the Edison-Ford House in Florida when I was a teenager. Lincoln slept there? Kilroy was here? And hey, Tommy Edison ate a snack here! Truth be told, Edison lived in Louisville for about 18 months while working as a telegraph operator. He was supposedly fired for an experiment gone wrong (he was working on something at work and spilled sulfuric acid on his boss's desk) and left town in 1867 to go live in one of those other 240 or so "Edison houses" around the country. The house is on East Washington Street in an area of town called Butchertown (that's where the meat packing plants were). The web site says it has a number of replicas of Edison's inventions or improvements of products on display in a museum-like setting. It's only $5 for adults (with discounts for seniors/children). I might have to scratch this one off the "never been to" list one day! A little bit of information about the Thomas Edison House:

I have never been to Menlo Park in NJ where the Thomas Edison Center is at. That was his home and lab.
