Wish I'd Seen 'Em #2 - Prince

Wish I'd Seen 'Em. It's a musical series about musicians that I wish I'd seen in concert, because they are now deceased, and I missed that boat. We are at #2: Prince (1958-2016.) Much like his predecessor in this series, Freddie Mercury, Prince was a born performer, one of the best showmen in music history. And I had my chance to see Prince. Except. In 1986, Prince and his backing band, The Revolution, hit the road in support of his album, Parade (his last album featuring The Revolution,) and Denver was on the itinerary. And a couple of friends and I got tickets. Back then, I was working in radio, and there were times when I was simply unable to swing a night off. This was one of those times. I heard that it was one hell of a show, and I have no reason to believe otherwise. But the closest I ever got to seeing Prince after that was either on TV, or You Tube. I linked to Prince's 2008 performance of Radiohead's "Creep" at Coachella. It was originally removed from You Tube, but the members of Radiohead lobbied for the video to be put back up. And that's one reason why I would have loved to have seen Prince. Because the odds were good that he might play something like this at some point during the show. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Such a great album, too! I once got into trouble for playing "Lady Cab Driver" on the radio when I was in college!

@dgobucks226 - The Program Director put a sticker over the song so that nobody could play it.

He was not really not mt style of music but was a neat musician indeed and some how ended pulling me in on some of his stuff. I hear you would have been neat to see him live.

@arthurchappell - He did. And you could usually tell it was him. The first time I heard "Manic Monday" I was like, "This sounds like something Prince would do."

I missed a lot of concerts working nights. Of course, the added problem is that there's no way someone else at the radio station is gonna swap with you. I could do that at the post office, but you can't fool someone working in radio!

A lot of the part-timers had regular jobs during the week. As opposed to me, when I was part time, I made it known that I was always available. I had no problem calling in sick somewhere in order to pull an air shift.

I know. I also missed out on seeing Heart with Shooting Star, for the same reason. I had 14th row tickets, right on Nancy Wilson. I did eventually get to see both Heart and Shooting Star, though. Different shows, but I did get to see them.

Have to say that Prince is one of those artists who don't do anything for me
