There are probably more than a handful of you that will recognize the name, and more th at will recognize the voice and then realize that you know who it is. But i'm sure there are more than that that have no idea who Rain is.
Douglas Rain was the voice of HAL 9000 in the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey as well as its sequel. He also had more than a hundred film and tv credits and was much admired by those that got to work with him.
Douglas Rain, the Canadian-born actor best known as the voice of HAL 9000 in "2001: A Space Odyssey" and its sequel "2010: The Year We Made Contact," died Sunday at St. Marys Memorial Hospital in St. Mary's, Ontario, according to CTV News.

It doesn't matter to me but you have his name spelt wrong in the title. I haven't heard of him until now.
