People can be so generous

Vince went to Nepal recently with a small group involved with some charity work. Once there, one Nepalese man was assigned to help coordinate and arrange the various visits and purchases. His brother was headmaster of a school that the group was helping. Although not many went to Nepal, the Sell for a Well community involves a number of people who help raise funds for the Nepalese project. Not long after Vince returned, the coordinator was a Facebook showing a heavily bandaged hand. He had chopped the tops of two fingers which working on his push-bike. He was in hospital for a few days and had had an operation. Hospital care in Nepal is as costly as anywhere else and the man had grave concerns as to how he would pay for his care. He had borrowed from relatives but of course that money would be expected to be repaid. Now, the people at Sell for a Well and others who are sympathetic to its aims have donated enough to cover all his expenses. In Australian terms, it is something over $3,000. Now, once again, we’re trying to work out the best way of getting the money there without incurring excessive fees. The photo is of students at the school.

The money is coming to Vince as the head of the group is in Cambodia. We were stunned when the money started coming in and then kept coming.

That's terrible he chopped the tops of his fingers off in a bad accident. I'm glad funds have been raised to help him. I hope you can get the money to him without the fees.

I think most people have good hearts and are happy to help others they know have a legitimate need.

He would have struggled for years to repay the money. The people in general are very poor but medical care is expensive.

@judyev The world can be a lot kinder that the TV news stories realise. I wouldn't live anywhere else!

There is certainly a lot of goodness in the world. 'Little' people doing unremarkable things (to a degree) but causing an incredible outcome.

We stopped the fund-raising today. There is enough to cover all his hospital expenses. It will be a huge load off his mind.

@JudyEv I really do think we get back what we give. If we're generous to others, then that generosity will be returned to us twofold.

@moffittjc We have had some incredibly good fortune in our lives and often following an event we thought was just short of catastrophic.

Thank you. One of the donors is recovering from a heart attack but said people had been kind to him and he wanted to do something for someone else.

We have been humbled by the generosity of the group, some of whom are what we call 'battlers' and don't have a lot themselves.

@Shiva49 That was a very good response. And imagining that you are the needy person and how that must feel helps a person to be generous I think.

@JudyEv I have seen it here in Asia those with a big heart are those who themselves are struggling by day-to-day. I recall a rich man telling me rather unhappily "how much do I have to give?" I replied "I gave till it really hurt my pocket; hope you can do likewise" siva

The first information was that he had lost two fingers but luckily it was just the tips. Bad enough but not like losing a whole finger.

It does but when the group were in Nepal checking out the wells a couple of years ago they began helping a school as well. They have put in over 30 wells now so they are turning their attention a little to the school.
