I gave the old Girlfinder a couple days off, but I pulled it out this morning, and just look at what it found! We are at #17: "Cannonball" by that most awesome of supergroups, The Breeders.
The Breeders (originally assembled under the working name "Boston Girl Supergroup") were formed in 1989 by former Pixies bassist/co-vocalist Kim Deal and Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donnelly, an idea conceived of while the two bands were touring together. The Breeders have survived a couple of hiatuses and a few lineup changes (Kim Deal is the band's only constant,) but are still going strong. The late Nirvana leader and record collecting enthusiast Kurt Cobain once declared The Breeders' 1990 debut album, Pod, one of his favorite records, and Concrete Blonde vocalist/bassist Johnette Napolitano loved the band so much that she
once used a SPIN Magazine interview to beg "please, next time, can I be in The Breeders?"
Yeah, The Breeders are pretty good.
From their second album (1993,) Last Splash, the fun, groovy "Cannonball" helped propel the album to platinum status, thanks in part to it's playful video, directed by Spike Jonze and Sonic Youth bassist/vocalist Kim Gordon. As a single, "Cannonball" performed fairly well, reaching #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and #2 on that magazine's Modern Rock Tracks chart,) #8 in France, and charted in the UK, Australia and the Netherlands as well.
And as if that weren't enough, NME (New Musical Express,) Melody Maker, and the Village Voice all named the tune "Best Single of 1993."
Not too shabby for what started out as a side project!

The funny thing is, Kim Deal is a pretty good bassist, but she did not play bass on this.

Cannonball was heavily played on KROQ.

I can imagine. It was played a lot on KTCL, our alternative station here. And they don't have anything like the reputation that KROQ has.

Don't remember that one, but glad to hear it finally! (Music is never "old" if it's new to you!)

Never too late to "discover" something. Better late than never, really.

@teamfreak16 It is here too although I think it would be regarded as somewhat derogatory which is why I commented on the name. We regard 'fanny bag' as pretty offensive too but we do have 'bum bags'.
Go figure.

They started out as an all-girl band (although the drummer has usually been male.) "Breeder" is basically a term for a female that is able to reproduce, at least here.
