out with the old, in with the new

Dear Octavia, We are so very sorry that we left you sitting there, in the bright sunshine of a cold autumnal day. You looked so sparkly and beautiful, and yet so forlorn and lonely, despite being in the company of a few other wretched souls. You gave us seven and a half wonderful years, and we saw you grow and develop from the boisterous kitty we chose with so much care and attention, into the smooth, sleek adult you became. We took such care of you, letting you accompany us to Here, There and Everywhere, marvelling at the attention you drew for your loveliness. You would purr contentedly. Your regular grooming appointments and servicing meant that you rarely gave us the problems others experience. There were times where your spluttering and coughing gave us cause for concern, and those occasions when you returned home slightly broken because of silly little fights gave us cause for fright. But on the whole, dear Octavia, you were a real pleasure to be with and love. Until you aged. And with age came more appointments to make you better, more expensive medications to treat you. It just wasn't working, my love. We had to let you go. We wish you well. We hope you find happiness in your twilight years, with people who can give you more than we can right now. We will always miss you. Perhaps you will miss us too? All our love, always, Husband & I. <3 postscript: By the way, we replaced you almost immediately, because we could. Her name is Octavia too, would you believe?! She's red and she purrs contentedly when we take her out. She draws admiring glances for her beauty. She is young {a year old}, but experienced and pre-loved. We will love and care for her as much as we loved and cared for you. Disclaimer: this is not about a cat, but it is about a car, lest anyone should not read it correctly and think we are evil folk for letting our pu.ssy cats go, simply because they are old.

Yes. It's been three days and I'm still a bit sad. :)

I thought that you were talking about the Škoda Octavia, only because this was a car my husband considered before replacing our old Ford Fiesta.

This is our third Octavia. He was considering a BMW or Audi this time, but they were only fleeting thoughts. Both those have a bad reputation here, not for the companies themselves, but some of the people who drive them!

@Poppylicious Same here, the BMW and Audi drivers have a bad reputation. The fiance of my niece had a BMW, I did not find that it was a comfortable car.

@poppylicious How cheeky and naughty of you - we were all about to cry. Now we’ll have to find something else that’s sad to cry over. Where are we going to find a calamity of cruelty to cry over at such short notice? Actually I thought at first this was going to be a story about one of your young charges in school.

Oooh, it could have gone any number of ways, couldn't it? Sorry for your sadness at not being sad.
