Embarrassing situation at the supermarket

So I went to get some food shopping today, I checked my bank balance before I left to make sure I had enough money, as I always do just in case. I got my shopping and went to pay, there was a queue so I waiting, the lady before me was having trouble with something so I had to wait a while. The cashier was really rude to the lady in front of me, the lady kept apologising to me for making me wait but I told her not to worry about it. So it got to my turn, I scanned my shopping and then my card declined. I knew there was enough money in there so I tried again and it declined again. I checked my banking app and it was showing that the money had been taken. I showed the cashier and she started practically shouting at me saying 'it's declined, it's declined' Then she started pointing at the receipt saying 'see it's declined, the money won't have gone out' I said ' well it's gone so I can't spend it again so I can't get my shopping, so I will have to leave it. At that she huffed and muttered something under her breath. My son who is only 4 went to pick something up of of the checkout and she snatched it from him and said 'No' really loudly. He was upset as he didn't know what was going on. I was absolutely horrified I just left straight away I was so embarrassed everyone was looking. I have never been treated so badly in a store before. I have submitted a complaint as she shouldn't be treating people like that. Have you had anything like this happen to you?

I would have requested a manager right away before I even left the store, where did your money go? she should not be treating people like that, I think she needs a new job where she doesn't have to deal with people.

I know I should have I was just so embarrassed and I had my son with me I couldn't get out of their quick enough. I have put a complaint in and rang the bank they said the money is pending and should go back in in a couple of days but that's not really the point is it. I am glad it's not just me that thinks this was totally unacceptable.

@Shellyjane I understand how embarrassing that was for you, she should not have treated any customer like that and should be fired for it.

@cintol I hope she at least gets in trouble for it, the way she spoke to the lady in front of me makes me think it is her normal way and not a one off.

We have cards declined Allie the time. Sometimes we will take them to a different lane to see whether that's the problem. I don't think any cashier that works with me would ever be so loud when informing the customer it's not working. Some people will looking for a message because of they've just returned from a trip or don't usually ship there it may get declined and they'd be informed by their Banks. Might that have been the problem for you? Otherwise maybe your husband used that same account right before you?

Well it was a shop I don't normally shop in but it was in the some town I normally do my grocery shopping. I am not sure why it declined, thinking about it now, it was probably because I was using contacetless, I should have tried with my pin but she didn't give me the option. I have never had a cashier act like that before it was awful.

The complaint that you made - was it submitted to the manager of the store to report the rude attitude of the cashier? What was the manager's action?

@Shellyjane People like that have a problem of their own and they bring it to work which should not be.

No I was too embarrassed to complain when I was there, I wrote a complaint to the company online. I don't think I will even get a reply.

That has not happened to me but I am sorry for the poor service you had to experience, she was not professional at all , she shouldn’t work there if she isn’t going to have a good attitude

Considering how many people are out of work and would like her job, I think they should give it to someone else.

That is strange about your money, but we have had it go different ways, it is hard to trust computers. As for the cashier, if she is allowed to continue there the store is likely to lose lots of customers. No matter what the problem was she should have been at least polite. It was a bad sign when she mistreated the person in front of you.

It's certainly an embarrassing to be stuck like this and the rude behavior compounds it. Was the money stolen from your bank account?

I don't think it was stolen but it is showing as gone. It should go back in a few days hopefully

Terrible behavior of the seller. You do not need to be ashamed of it, because it's very nasty. Do not give up the lawsuit, because someone like that should not work with people. I did not have such a bad experience, but the sellers are very unhappy here.

I have not experienced something like that before and the cashier was really mean to you. That should not happen! Even if she was having a hard day at work she could've managed it so she didn't treat people like she did to you. So sorry about that. In fact I think you handled wisely the situation, if it was me, I would have yelled at her not to say it out loud that my card declined cause there was no need to do that!
