Mail call! No, not really, just time for another episode of M*A*S*H. The long-running TV series is a favorite of many people, myself included. As we've progressed you may have noticed that some of my favorites aren't on other lists of "favorite episodes" of the series. That's individuality for you! (Or, as Frank once said, "Individuality is fine, so long as we all do it together!" ) Here's today's episode. #6: Mr. and Mrs. Who? Charles comes back from some R&R in Tokyo with a horrible hangover from "two or three bowls" of sake punch and a roll of film. The photos show Charles and a woman together (no, not in "that" way). Things get more complicated when the woman calls and introduces herself as "Mrs. Charles Emerson Winchester III." Of course, it was one of those "barroom marriages" that wasn't legal, so Charles didn't end up hitched. That's part of the hilarity of the episode. For me, the highlight of the entire episode is Charles, after being relieved to discover he did NOT marry a woman in a drunken fit of whatever, asks her, "What is your name????" It's another Charles episode, showing what a comedic and multi-dimensional character he was. If you didn't know, David Ogden Stiers, who played Winchester, passed away earlier this year at the age of 75. What great performances he left behind: in addition to voice characters in numerous Disney movies, he'll always be the lovable Major Winchester. Mr. and Mrs. Who? Written by Ronny Graham Directed by Burt Metcalfe Season 8, episode 9 Can't believe there's no clip of this on YouTube, so here's a great clip from another episode featuring Winchester being hilarious (also featuring George Wendt (of Cheers fame):
One of the many hightlights of M*A*S*H, a scene from season 11's episode 2. An outstandig performance by David Ogden Stiers as Major Charles Winchester, relu...

I love the one where Blake goes to the latrine and the toilet explodes and he winds up with the toilet seat around his neck

I love that scene, too. That's the chopper pilot who wants to kill Henry because Henry won't let him have leave to go home and see his wife.

MASH was before my time. The only episode I really remember (or scene) really is the last one when they left the camp. I remember the helicopters leaving and them seeing the MASH message left there in rocks or whatever it was. I was too young to understand what it was all about but I did love watching Klinger and Hot Lips as a kid. (I was born in 1977).

This is a funny one. Just imagining Charles getting that drunk and out of control is hilarious.
