I just read that former President of the US, George H.W. Bush had died at 94 years of age. R I P. He was a Republican, but a mild one.
I turned on the TV very early as in my country we are having a telethon (number 40) for disabled people. Don Francisco, an international known Chilean TV man, started it 40 years ago and he has used his charisma to bring people to help with the fund raising. Now there are many rehab centers and people from all over South America at least come to be helped here. Over the years many international actors and singers from all over the world have come to help. But the biggest help comes from modest people who give a small contribution.
The Chilean telethon started trying to help some disabled children; now it goes far beyond that. Good for all who help!

We have been doing it for 40 years. At the beginning, not many people were aware of the disabled people“s needs. Now sidewalks have places where a wheelchair can cross easily. And there are thousand other things. New buildings have to have ramps too.

@Janet357 It is this sort of actions, that come from the people, that make governments change the laws. We are working on a law about genre and another one about abortion. It all ends up about how can people live more freely.

It is interesting that with the Telethon, the help has also meant the change in how disabled people are helped and understood.

In our Telethon, the 70% of the raised money comes from people who give a little.

@marguicha I'm sure the stats would be similar here.
