When You Wake Up 10 Minutes Before Your Alarm

That's what happened to me this morning. I woke up, looked at the clock, and thought, "Oh, Good Grief!" Determined to go back to sleep, I closed my eyes and...couldn't. "Rats!" I succumbed to the inevitable. I got up and started my day. On the bright side, I have time to check my notifications and write this post before I leave for work because the dogs need 2nd Potties before I leave and it's still to early for that. How often do you wake up a few minutes before your alarm?

My biological clock is my alarm. Even if I get up at odd hours I get good sleep going back.

@DWDavis Morning hours are the best. I am an early riser and the first thing I do after a cuppa is to be here (lol)

If I happen to wake up in the wee hours of the morning, I can usually get back to sleep, but when I wake up so close to the alarm, I think the sense of anticipation keeps me from being able to doze off again.

@allknowing Morning hours are not the best per se. This is an idea which is perpetuated by early risers who terrorise late risers with their arguments. They may be the best for you. They have never been for me. I hate mornings!

As a pensioner I don't have this problem any more. :-)

@DWDavis I live in the street behind the first school I taught at. I was lucky to find a nice flat there when I was sent to the town where I live now by the Ministry of Education. Five minutes on foot from my door into a classroom! It didn't take long and I and my husband didn't hear the ringing of the bell consciously any more. The noise the pupils make when they are in the schoolyard during the long break is nice and isn't disturbing at all. In fact, we miss it during the holidays. The long break starts at 9.10 a.m. and lasts for 15 minutes. I'm often still in bed then! The first lesson begins at 7.35 a.m. That is cruel! I can't imagine anymore how I survived this for 40 years.

@MALUSE When I still taught at the middle school, first bell was at 7:20 a.m. I did that for 15 years. Now, the school I'm at has first bell at 8:00 a.m. I find that much more reasonable. I know what you mean about missing the sound of the students during break. During long breaks from school, I often find myself missing my students.

I am retired so I should wake up at any time. But no. My biological clock is very accurate. And now Luna starts making noises just in case I forget she is there. As if I could

@DWDavis My dog lives outside. But Luna still wants some attention from me.

Our dogs are one reason I rarely get to sleep much past 6 a.m. most days even when I don't have to get up for work.

Now we're retired we don't have an alarm. When we do need one, I lay awake half the night trying to pre-empt it.

I get that way when we have to get up early for some special event. I keep waking up all night to check the time and make sure we don't oversleep.

I rarely wake up before the alarm. My doctor tells me that needing an alarm is a sign of not getting enough sleep.

Rarely it happens with me then I may get worry whether my alarm is not worked or I missed it. Then on checking time I understand I am early than the 'set-up' time.

Sometimes when it happens I feel a moment of panic that I forgot to set the alarm or it failed to go off for some reason and I am running behind and will be late for work. Thankfully, this has not happened to me, yet.

No alarm here, even when I have to get up for something..I don't usually need an alarm. I have a good internal body clock.

@DWDavis Habits are a bit tough to break sometimes and I know because I had a baby that kept me up many a night and sometimes for nearly 24 hours a day. With him I did not need any alarms or anything.

If I tried to do without my alarm clock, I would sleep right through most of the morning, or at least until the dogs woke me up at Pee O'Clock (around 6 a.m.)

Over the summer I get used to sleeping as late as I want most days and have to readjust when school starts back up. This year, it's just taking me longer to adjust.

I either wake a few minutes before or I don't hear it at all! But I get ill at myself if I wake up an hour too early and like you, I can't go back to sleep.

It is a frustrating feeling when you know you don't have to be up yet but can't fall back asleep.

I suppose everyday since I don't set the alarm....but when I did use one I would almost always wake up 10-15 minutes before it went off. My internal clock has always been that way.

I've never been much of an early riser even when I was in the Army. I had to get up early then, but I never liked it much.

I can be stubborn that way, too, sometimes. Even though I'm wide awake, I'll refuse to get out of bed.

I always wake up before the alarm. In fact, last night I set the clock to 5:30, but I woke up before 5:00 . Well, i thought it is fine because I exercised.

Every single morning, I wake up a minute or two before my alarm goes off. I don't know how my body seems to know, but it does. It even continued to happen after the time changed, when you would think that my body would have been thrown off by an hour. But nope, still woke up a couple of minutes before the alarm went off.
