Are you supposed to run away from them? Or should I have stayed still?

I'm asking in case it happens again. I was following one of my relatives into their friend's house. The woman I was introduced to was really nice, and kind of quirky. I liked her immediately, and I am sure everyone she meets feels the same way. She has some weird pets though. A dog, a cat, a lizard (which was named Volvo after her first car) and a skunk. Yeah, you read that right. She had a skunk and I'm telling you I think that thing could smell fear. I also think it was rabid. I didn't want to get too close. She gave me a tour of her home. Two stories on a nice plot of land. She had three bedrooms upstairs and a bedroom downstairs that had been converted into her office. There were a lot of books on her office shelves, some of which I've read before. We were making our way into her garage when it happened. The skunk, that had been following us around silently, pounced. I had on flip flops and a pair of leggings. The bite was sharp, and no matter how much flailing around I did, the thing would not let go. The lady was mortified and was trying to get the skunk off of me but I wasn't stopping for anything. I ran around the room three times and even resorted to mashing my leg against the cement brick of her garage. That thing should have been knocked unconscious from the force of it, but if anything it was biting down deeper. It finally let loose of my leg and scurried away. I vowed that I'd be calling animal control on the woman, who didn't look to happy about that prospect. I had my phone out before we even pulled out of the driveway.
