Ice Fishing Anyone?

United States
December 10, 2018 12:33pm CST
I went out this morning again to see what the next day would look like after yesterday's snow. The end of our driveway always has water that has pooled up around it. The snow has melted in places due to a fluctuation in temperatures and some rain that we received. Pictured is only one of the ice pools. I actually found another pool of cold water that had been thin ice covered by snow. Our county schools are closed until Thursday.

@ScribbledAdNauseum These days, both! With the loss of most of my mobility, I have come to regard winter as a season best to stayed indoors and only heading out when absolutely necessary. I have gone ice fishing, and I suspect that it is a sport created by men to get away from their wives on the weekend.

I went outside the day before the snow started and I could tell it was in the air. I went out earlier this morning, things are slowly thawing but they'll refreeze tonight. We probably won't be leaving the house until atleast Wednesday. Our lot always takes the longest to thaw, and since we got 15 inches atleast, it'll be awhile.

@Plethos Oh no, there's definitely several tells of how the day is going to be weather wise. I've never smelled rain or anything like it, but I can believe that it's possible.

I've never been fishing period, ice or othwise. I would probably like it as it would be peaceful though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It doesn't sound like fun out there. Be careful how you walk if you have to go out.

This is an older discussion. The snow / ice is already long gone.

That's what I hate. It always rains after the snow and makes things even more dangerous.

@dya80dya Yes, I've slipped and fallen near my home because of the ice and snow.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It's true. I can barely walk. It's too much ice.

I love the snow. I hope you enjoy it. The snow clouds are gone from here, we have blue skies now. It hasn't melted much though.

@Nevena83 I don't like hot weather. I prefer it to be not too hot or too cold.

I sometimes have puddles in the driveway, that might be frozen now. I am not gonna go out though.

I doubt we will get mail, but I need to check for it later, so I'll be going out again. I am expecting a mug that I got one friend, and another part of a friend's order. The latter probably won't be here until next week.

Looking at your picture reminds me of Montana and 6 long years living in the snow. I'm not a snow person, I love pictures of snow and snowy landscapes but I am a warm weather person. I remember getting dressed for an appointment and we walked out the door, stepped down the steps and I promptly stepped in a pool of ice water and snow. My ex-husband had neglected to shovel the walk. He was supposed to do that every morning for us and the landlord. He did the landlord's sidewalk but couldn't take 5 minutes to shovel our walk. He stated that our's didn't need it...it was ankle deep in snow and ice. The neighbors had a good laugh because I grabbed the snow shovel and chased him and smacked him with it, (like out of one of the old Laurel and Hardy movies) and while I went in to change my shoes he shoveled the walk...he was done in 3 minutes...that's what a little motivation does for a person.

Oh I love the snow but we don't get a lot of it. We might get one or two snow storms a year. I'm the only one in the household who will dare go out in it. I was out while it was snowing for awhile, that's my favorite part. I haven't done any shoveling yet.

Good for you. The city is doing good about clearing off streets, they're doing the secondary ones now from what I've been told.
