Short Story: Only vulnerability overcomes vulnerability

Freda had to sit down with herself on her own bench to be herself in her self

Freda was an older woman who had lived most of her life feeling vulnerable in her life. She wanted to help others, and to give them of herself. But she felt that she had nothing to give. And with nothing to give, she thought that she could give them nothing of value then. The truth is though, we all have nothing to give. When we give from nothing, it becomes something. Thinking that we have something to give, always colours the giving with an aspect of our own selfishness of our wanting a certain outcome from our giving. We should not want to be somewhere, (or someone) else before we start giving. We should give of ourselves, of ourselves, as we are right now. When we allow uncertainty to be our certainty, we allow vulnerability to make us vulnerable. We can be vulnerable positively, by being who we are openly. The seeker never finds, because the finder is always someone other than who you are now. Be who you are now, and find the seeker is then satisfied in the only way that it can ever be satisfied fully. Freda stopped trying to escape from her vulnerability, and by embracing it, she became her true self. Vulnerability then can either be part of your humility, or part of your fear. In one, it serves you. In the other, it just goes to bash you over the head with itself. A very good philoophical reflection. Our faults and mistakes and frailties make us as much as our strengths

Thanks. Yes, we must acknowledge our weaknesses, or shadow self, as I have heard it called, and accept all parts of ourselves, if we are ever to grow forwards as our self, because we can only grow forwards from what we accept of ourselves right now.

@arthurchappell Don't tell that to those who believe in duality . They think that there is always an opposing character to everything. I read that negative and positive are only labels. It is what you think after that that causes you harm. If you feel guilty about feeling negative, for example, this is what gets you down. Seeing the negative in something is often a good thing to do, in fact, it's positively negative to do that. Everything takes us forwards, or upwards then. Nothing goes backwards.

That is something to really think about. I often feel like when I am alone I can be myself and it is harder to be me when around strangers. Does this make sense to you? Just my 2 cents.

No life is wasted unless we are blissfully oblivious to others' predicaments and helplessness. Even a gentle smile can cause a ripple effect on society around us. We may think we are not rich enough to give but what matters more is those that money cannot buy. Now money is used to finance weapons but love, compassion, and empathy prevent us from going over the precipice It is better to be our true self all the time to give and even receive what is meant - siva

Thanks Shiva. The ripple effect is really important to remember before we do anything else too. Of course, it takes some insight, awareness, and a degree of humility for us to accept our true selves as our real self, and not think that our ego-self is really us. How do we be sure of our true self, then, and that we are being it, as we might think that our true self is our ego self, for example, as just mentioned above? Our true self operates from love for love at all times, whereas a false self or ego self operates for itself from itself without much love or real consideration for any others, but itself.

@Shiva49 Well-stated Shiva. What we hold onto binds us to itself.

@innertalks Yes Steve, when we allow our soul to guide our mind and, thereby our thoughts and actions, then false ego disappears. Over time that approach becomes a habit. We have to keep our heart free to allow God's love to fill it, but many pay lip service to what they know is right and go for material wealth which then dictates their actions. We should move on to the conclusion that what is hoarded beyond our needs cause misery not only to us but to society in general - siva
