When my girls were young we would hang an advent calendar in our dining room. Each day the girls would be breathlessly waiting for the day to be turned back to see what kind of treat was in store for them. They would get a treat and a bible verse per countdown day to Christmas. I never wanted them to forget the ultimate reason for Christmas. I decided the first year we did this that I needed a regular front for the calendar and a specially back. So I took the front off of the store bought calendar and made my own back. When you folded back the day behind it would be a bible verse and the name of the treat for the day. There would be little treats such as a lollipop, a hair bow, or a little trinket of some type. I am happy to say that the girls have continued this little tradition with their own children. Do you have a tradition that you celebrate every year at Christmas time? Share it with us.

You can make your own. Use some wrapping paper and heavy card stock. I bet you could make a really pretty one.

What a great tradition your mom included in your Christmas season. The placing of baby Jesus on Christmas morn is wonderful.

An advent calendar was never part of our Christmas but they do seem a great thing for kids.

I always wanted to decorate our home with a Christmas star (lantern) to symbolize the star that guided the three kings towards the manger where Jesus was born.
