Do you hang stockings out for Santa every year? We still do even though we no longer have children living in our home. It is something we do for all of our children, grandchildren, husbands. and animals. It just seems to be one of those things we automatically do. Even when we had no fireplace and chimney to hand them on, there they were on Christmas Eve hanging, waiting to be filled. We also used to leave cookies and a glass of milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. The girls were so excited when, the next morning, they would find and empty glass and plate and the carrots were gone. We have such wonderful memories of Christmas past. What are your memories of Christmas long ago?

We always hang our stockings by the fireplace each Christmas. Sometimes I think the kids get more excited by what's in their stockings than they do with the presents under the tree! My favorite memory every year is planning a day with the kids to go out to a Christmas tree and pick out the perfect tree, and then come home and do all of our decorating together as a family. Even though the kids are almost grown now, we still plan our weekend where we make sure we are all home so we can do our Christmas decorating.

The picking of the perfect tree was one of my best memories. I think that decorating together is one the best activities of the holiday.

@HazySue I love picking the perfect tree as well. My two kids have become quite the pros at picking out good trees. Of course, anything they pick must meet my seal of approval first! haha

In the morning, our kids would find the carrots gone and little pile of manure there. It always tickled us!

We would leave little bits of carrot in our driveway. The kids love anything different like that.

No stockings and no place to hang them. This year is another tough Christmas with memories but I did put up a small Christmas tree.

Our kids have always had stockings, but many years ago, I started making stockings for each child and grandchild, sons-in-law and daughers-in-law, and some of the pets. This year I made one for our granddaughter's Maltipoo, Winnie. Great memories, aren't they?

There are so many good memories wrapped up with the stockings. I used to make specialty stocking for the girls according to their interests at the time.

Our stockings were just one of our socks out of our sock drawer. I do remember trying to hang up a pair of my tights one year. We always got an orange and some nuts and candy. Later on there started to be small gifts too. As adults we continued at our parents with stockings and then I made us all pretty stockings including stockings for mom and dad. It can still be fun as adults.

It is still fun as a grown-up. We always got a tooth brush, a brush, a comb, a few little trinkets when we were growing up.
