Did you learn to type on a typewriter?

One of the things I got from my father was an old typewriter. I added one similar to the one I learned on many years ago recently. My dad left me his portable Royal. I found a standup Royal like the one he had in his home office.
In part that is to honor my father. But also the first thing I ever sold as a writer was written on that typewriter.
I learned to type on an actual typewriter.
How did you learn how to type?

I owned a Ramington rand portable type writer when I was just 25 years old and I used to type my articles on that to submit in local news papers as free lance journalist. But I could never learn how to type systematically. I used to use my two fingers to type which I still do!

My father was adept at the type writer and I would try my hand at that as a kid . His was an Olivetti.
But regular use of the qwerty keyboard is only on the computer ,I am afraid.

@DocAndersen no it was only childish things like Zzzzzzzz , sometimes we wrote a page....we used to try to type there but not learn as such .
Unlike the computer there was no undo button.
There were typing schools that time though but I never went
