Scuba Diving Family, But Not Us!

Our daughter-in-law had a regulator popped into her mouth as a child by her father. Since then, she has done dives beneath the sea all over the world. She became a scuba diving instructor and taught my son. They’ve been on dives all over the world, too. She taught my younger son how to dive. He and his wife also took more recent classes, and both of them have made dives. It was time for my grandkids to get regulators popped into their mouths, too. They made their first dives on vacation in Aruba last week. They loved seeing all that sparkled and swam beneath the sea. My husband and I are big chickens. We just like to swim in seas all over the world and darn well close to shore. Do you scuba dive? Do you snorkel? Do you swim?

I swim. I was in the first swim class for infants in Miami more years ago that I want to remember. I would love to have learned when I was much younger how to snorkel and scuba dive but I wouldn't do it now. How wonderful that you son, daughter-in-law and their children are involved in it.

I’m glad you swim, too. I enjoy it, but have no desire to scuba dive. I’m afraid of things like sharks.. The grandkids loved it, and I’m sure they will do it again and again.

@DianneN The sharks would kill a desire to swim among, I am also scared.

@m_audrey6788 I’m sorry. Everyone in our family can swim well. My husband isn’t too good, though.

I know they must love scuba diving. It is something I always thought I'd do. When I was young, I loved snorkeling and swimming. Back then, I never had the money for scuba classes. Now that I could afford them, I don't have the time. Perhaps I will learn when I retire.

@DianneN Then it may be too late for me. I developed high blood pressure after having my gallbladder removed. How the two are connected is something no one has been able to explain to me in all the years since.

Yes, there’s always time in retirement to learn new things. Just don’t get high blood pressure from teaching. High blood pressure is a no-no for scuba diving.

Yes I do, I dived frequently in the UK and around the world for 15 years. It changed my life in many ways. I have had to give it up 4 years ago as it is not a family-friendly activity with young children but I feel 'homesick' if I look at a photo of something like a sponge! I intend to go back with the girls one day!

@Fleura Me either. Just asked because it is rated the #2 dive place in the world. My son and his bride spent about one week of their honeymoon there. The #1 place wasn’t in season.

@shaggin No interest whatsoever. Our DIL was willing to give us lessons. I wouldn’t even know what I was looking at in the ocean. Our boys can name almost every fish and critter they see. Don’t ask me how!

I never learned to swim. I might be willing to go down in a bubble but not diving as something could eat me.

That’s my fear, too. My younger son told me I was silly. He’s seen all kinds of sharks and other creatures. They keep their distance. He and his wife dove special to see the giant whale sharks that only eat vegetation, but as it turned, my son had to get away fast before its tail clobbered him.

I mostly swim.Did very little on the snorkel not much. I was in my days a very good swimmer. Snorkel is a lot of fun and very interesting seeing the depth of the water They are having lost of fun.It is a very good idea to teach their family on this. Most parents do not.
