Favorite Bands with Colorado Ties #2 - The Czars

Yep, it's a beautiful day here in Denver, sunny and a high of 51°. Seems as good a time as any to continue my countdown of my favorite bands with Colorado ties. We are at #2: The Czars. Alternative rock band The Czars were from Denver, formed by vocalist John Grant and bassist Chris Pearson (as I remember it, the story was that they met in a Denver alley, when, while at the same party, both went out to smoke and decided to form a band. As I remember it,) in 1994. Simply put, Grant has a beautiful voice, and it's no surprise that he has gained a following as a solo artist. When bassist Simon Raymonde left the Cocteau Twins in 1997, he founded the Bella Union record label, and Grant began sending him Czars demos. Eventually, one of those demos caught Raymonde's ear, and he began producing them, and helped arrange a couple European tours. All in all, The Czars released six studio albums, one EP, three singles, and a Best Of. Grant continued performing under the name for a bit before becoming a solo artist. I have seen The Czars live more than any other musical act (I even attended their final show as a band, which was kind of a sad affair, in retrospect.) If they were playing, I was there. I miss them.
