Who else wish they could be sleeping?

It looks like not only the young people were up too late. My mom is usually up fairly early. Ones of the nurses tried to get her up earlier and gave her meds and got her partially dressed. I don't know what my mom did to let her know she wanted to sleep but she was allowed to sleep and was still in bed when I got here at 11:45. Since I'm here they got her up again. She barely opened her eyes. She's not interested in eating either. If anyone else orientation last night and have hang overs you may feel the same way, but I know she was in bed by ten pm unless she couldn't sleep. I don't think that's much of an issue any more, though. If she was sleeping this much every day I'd be concerned as that's more common when residents get closer to death. I expect my mom to have more years yet though. ~~~~~~~~ Who stayed up last night to bring in the new year? My daughter worked a double last night and had to open today at ten. She did go to her sisters but was in bed before midnight. I was up until one pm but I don't get into the ball dropping. I did behind to hear fireworks starting at 8:30 last night. So what about you?

I was in bed before midnight. We had our dinner, watched a movie and we were too tired to stay up to greet the New Year.

I was up during that time, but could care less about watching the events as they happen. If I lived in a warmer climate, maybe, but probably not.

@MarshaMusselman When we lived in Monte-Carlo, we always stayed up and joined the parties in the streets at midnight. We were young and the temperature there was never cold.

@LadyDuck In my younger years I didn't mind staying up either. In more recent years there has been parties downtown where they have one or two large tents to keep people in from inclement weather. But, even if they have heaters there, if it's a frigid day, and it normally is, then it's still pretty cold. I always worry about the people drinking that don't realize how cold it gets, but I've never heard of anyone dying at those parties, so maybe someone monitors them for the idiots that drink too much. My daughters used to go to those, but now that they're older and have better jobs, they seem to have more sense.

I stay up until the new year arrived and then I went to bed. I hope your mom gets all the rest she needs today.

I can't imagine that she needs the extra rest. Most of the people here either sleep or watch tv in their spare time. My mom can hear fine, but is legally blind. She can see people when they enter a room if they are near enough to her, but she can't see the tv. When her dementia was just beginning, we had her tv set within two feet from her recliner so she could watch her favorite shows which my sister diligently taped for her. That was two years ago. She'd rather be sleeping now. But, she normally gets up in time for breakfast and eats her meals. She's not skin and bones although she did drop in weight from when she first arrived. So, I doubt if missing one or two meals will impact her much.

@Happy2BeMe Just last week I thought she may just last another ten years. Her sister, one of the few remaining alive turned 102 this past year. She made it to over ninety before she began having symptoms of dementia, but my mom has had it for about six years now, although she lived at home until four or so years ago. She'll probably be back to her normal self by tomorrow.

Sometimes naps are just what is needed... my dad loved his afternoon nap and my Uncle Joe could sleep anywhere... it was a family joke. If there was an empty spot, he could curl up and be out like a light in minutes! As for us... everyone was in bed by eleven I think but we all slept in this morning!!

I've always loved naps and have no problem with my mom sleeping, but when the residents are allowed to sleep most of the day away in their beds it's usually when family doesn't care or when they are close to dying. Seeing her in bed that late in the day was a bit disconcerting. I did get her to drink a small bottle of gatorade, which was good and they were going to see if she was hungry later in the day since she missed her breakfast and didn't want lunch. I've not done this in recent years, but I found that if people were visiting and I was extremely tired it was easier for me to sleep /take a nap in the midst of the noise rather than hide in a room and try to hope for a bit of quiet. I have fallen asleep on a kitchen chair at my desktop before and not just for minutes, but for a few hours. So, I might be similar to your uncle joe.

Are they giving your Mom some sleeping pills? WE went to bed before midnight.

No. I doubt if they give them to anyone here/there. As most of the residents sleep a lot of the day already. I'm wondering whether she couldn't sleep during the night and that's why she was so tired still at noon. But, one of the Cena's was going to check the book there to see whether she was up or not. She can't get up by herself anymore, so even if she was awake in the night it doesn't mean anyone noticed or wrote it down. Oh, I'm not sure that I remember that you're a 'we'. Did I just forget?

I don't get caught up in the hype of seeing the new year in, but we've been staying up too late. My husband tends to read awhile after he takes his nightly pills and shots while i either play games or try to get some bookwork in. Sometimes, I'll go to bed before he does but he tends to wake me up by asking me questions or just being a bit noisy, so I wait until he's ready. We do need to start going earlier so when I begin back to work again I'm not staying up all night.

@Hannihar So am I. I was worried, for a bit there, but everything is back to normal again. She never was a good sleeper and tended to sleep in the day too even when she didn't have dementia, but usually she gets up at a normal hour in the morning for breakfast before getting her first nap.

I would be a bit worried as well especially if she keeps on with this sleeping pattern. Sometimes there sleep can change when they are depressed. Maybe she isn't feeling well and is coming down with a cold or something. Hopefully she is okay.

I am glad that they let your Mom sleep a bit later, we all need that now and again. There is a nap with my name on it in a little while. I'm just relieved and happy that the holiday season is over, now I can relax easier. We haven't watched the ball drop in decades, it hasn't been of any interest to us in a very long time. Happy New Years.

I don't remember ever enjoying watching that although spending time with friends and, or family is always welcomed. I'd rather not brace the inclement weather and prefer to stay at home.

Do not worry, probably your mom is only sleeping, it happens to us younger people, we have the days when we are sleeping all day.
