Do you remember using the library and it's books to research a item? Remember when there we no computers there at your disposal to find the information you need? I can remember using the card catalog to look up books that might have the information I needed. Then it was a matter of finding the book on the shelves and looking through the book for the information I needed. It is so much easier to find information today. Just turn on the computer and all kinds of information is right there at your fingertips. You can even get all you need while sitting there on you living room couch in your pj's. Who would have thought years ago when I was a teen that it would all become so easy in just a few years?

I know the computer makes research easier but I miss the way it used to be at libraries.

Ah yes. My brother reminded me today of those long-ago days. Though he told me my teacher was the one from Little House On The Prairie, making me older than I am. Then, being 10 years younger, he rubbed in my computer less age by stating he had computers in school in his senior year. I remember the librarian giving us instructions on the use of the card catalog. I spent a good part of my teenage years in the library.

I also spent an enormous amount of time in the library. From the moment I learned what a book was for I loved them. I would rather have a book than a toy.

I remember learning how to do that in elementary school, but never had to actually do it.

@HazySue Yes used to have to go to the library and research things and then the computer came along and now we can do it in the comfort of our own home now.

That's true but I still like to occasionally walk among the books in the library.

If I want to find out any information, I just reach out for my phone

Many times I miss having to look for Books this way, and learning so many things you may not have ever known before them. I know in life things have gotten a lot easier, but also I think makes us a lot lazier as well

I think you are correct. I think it would be better if the kids of today had to do a research project in the library, if nothing else for the experience.

We went to an old library where they had those old card catalog drawers (no actual cards though) - the kids asked what that was . Researching is definitely much easier these days - we can even see the library digital catalog from home!

@HazySue I do think that made us more resourceful and appreciative of "new" technology.

How true. It seem like it was so long ago when we had to work to get the information we needed way back when.

We eventually gave away our encyclopaedias - to the thrift shop. No-one wanted them.

@HazySue So much has changed. Watches were a very special gift once. With the last one I bought the postage cost more than the watch!
