Why do people insist on being perfect?

Honestly, that's the kind of question I'll never be able to understand ... I have friends who do not go to the beach because they find their bodies "inadequate", family members who study extensively to graduate in something they do not want just to meet their parents' expectations. anyway, I even see people who search exhaustively for something they will never achieve: perfection. How much time wasted. It's kinda sad sometimes.

I know I'm not perfect, however, there is one area of my life I demand perfection - my writing. I despise typos. That's not to say my writing is perfect, it's not. I know I have issues, but from what I've read of other author's works, they do too. So, I'm in good company.

I keep telling my husband I'm perfect. He just keeps telling me, "Close enough."

Sounds like the problem is that people don't want perfection, they want what someone else considers perfection.

I feel sorry for those who pursue careers that they don't care for. I think parents are very selfish when they try to force their opinions on their children.

Yes, perfection can never be achieved but it is something to pursue that can enhance and make better.

@WiseGhots I do not think I am perfect at all. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life. I am far from perfect. I do not think that there is anyone that is perfect. I believe people do have faults.'Even the nicest people have faults.

@WiseGhots So very true. Even those that smile all the time. I wonder what is going on inside of them.

No one is perfect! Just be yourself and do not always please other people as long as you are on the right track.

I agree that it's unfortunate when people spend a lot of time and effort to achieve a level of "perfection" to impress others, but they are miserable within themselves. It's sad that some avoid activities that they would enjoy (your beach example), because they judge themselves and fear the judgment of others!
