The Popularity of Hee Haw

Another great talent we lost in 2018 was Roy Clark on November 15. He was a musician and the host of the country music show Hee Haw. This show was like the country version of the ever-popular Laugh-In. Roy Clark was country from the time he was born growing up just a block from a pig farm in Washington, D.C. Even though he started out as a prizefighter he soon got interested in the music scene in the capital. He began playing with Jimmy Dean country music singer and TV host on the first nationally televised country show. Then he went to Las Vegas and finally had his first hit with “The Tips of My Fingers” in 1963. In 1969 CBS fired the Smother Brothers and finally, Hee Haw had its slot and it became a great hit with TV audiences. The show did a lot for country music and Clark and the other performers on the show gained popularity. One of my favorite songs by Roy Clark was “Yesterday When I Was Young”. Who remembers this singer? Who remembers Hee Haw?

I know the song but not the singer of the show. I doubt it was shown here.

I liked Roy Clark. He was a favorite of my parents so his music was often heard around our house and we always watched Hee Haw. It was one of my Dad's favorite shows.
