Heroin

Heroin was once a perfectly acceptable medicine prescribed by doctors for everything from coughs to headaches.
So many deaths are happening now due to heroin overdoses. It has become an epidemic. Too bad we could not have continued using it as a cough medicine or just for headaches. I read an alarming article from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) today....
The rate at which middle-aged American women die from overdoses involving opioids and other drugs nearly quadrupled between 1999 and 2017, new government data shows.
In 1999, about seven out of every 100,000 deaths among U.S. women aged 30 to 64 was caused by a drug overdose, but by 2017 that rate had risen to about 24 women per 100,000 -- a 260 percent increase, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
Such tragic news for all of us. I have known family members and friends who have tragically died by a drug overdose. And we see the celebrities in the news often dying of an overdose. When will it stop? Or at least slow down. Very troubling to look at the number of deaths.
Has this tragedy taken the life of someone you know?

I didn't know it used to be used as medicine....but that is very unfortunate and heartbreaking that people use it the way they do now and overdose.
