Mom Had A Secret

I can't imagine Nanny and Grandpa allowing it, but Mom was only 18 when she got married and I guess that it was a secret that she definitely wanted to keep from Dad... Stories like this is what I love to add to the family tree!! Mom's secret was that she didn't know how to cook and definitely didn't know how to bake! Her pie crusts were terrible but she baked them early enough in the day to know whether dad would be able to eat them lol... most of the time they weren't edible so before he got home, they went straight into the garbage. He was never the wiser. She did manage to figure them out and she became amazingly good at them and we probably enjoyed more pies than cakes . By the time I was in public school, we lived on a farm with a massive garden and every sort of fruit plant that you could possibly want, so that was likely why we had so many pies over the years!! It might also be that she loved Coconut Cream Pie herself... so she was going to master the pie crust if it killed her. Now that I think about it, there was only one pie that she made that hated... have no idea why she thought that THAT kind of pie would every be liked by anyone. Her excuse was that it was my sister's favorite... and she couldn't play favorites!! Thing was... my sister hated it as much as I did!! So your turn... what kind of cook was your mom??
