This familiar nursery rhyme talks about someone throwing a cat into a well and then someone rescuing it. Also the children are labelled thin and stout to make the rhyme proper. I've found a lot of the nursery rhymes are violent and talk about getting injured or killed. What do you hunk of this nursery rhyme? Some people say that the rhyme actually was written to create awareness about animal cruelty, but is this something a 2 year old will get from this rhyme? Ding, dong, bell, Poossy’s in the well. Who put her in? Little Johnny Thin. Who pulled her out? Little Tommy Stout. What a naughty boy was that, To try to drown poor poossy cat,

A lot of nursery rhymes are very iffy but I guess kids recognise them just as funny rhymes unless someone starts putting ideas in their heads.

This one straightaway makes some of them think cats can be put inside wells for fun!

I remember when my daughter was a toddler, she watched nursery rhyme shows on YouTube, and there was one version where they act out Ding Dong Bell, and my daughter got very upset about the kitty getting thrown in the well. I do think that a 2 year old can get from it that its mean to do that to a cat

@pitstop Its kinda funny but I think once she kind of understood it, she didn't like it anymore. She really loves cats

Maybe there's some story behind it, in many cases there is, such as 'Ring-a ring-a-roses' (about the great plague) and 'Baa baa black sheep' (about the landowners and the church taking 2/3 of a farmer's income).

A lot have stories behind them. Not sure how these are relevant for the kids though.
