Wynnifred Franklin is probably the oldest employee on record that is employed by the Giant supermarket chain in Audubon Pennsylvania since she works six days a week in the bakery department since 1996.
Franklin decided to come out of retirement in 1996 when her close friend who was her next door neighbor passed away.
The passing of her next door neighbor happened after her husband Charles Franklin died in 1984 due to an aneurysm after 35 years of age where he had five children, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Wynnifred works a three hour shift at the Giant supermarket from 6am to 9am since working keeps her spirits up serving her customer base who are amazed to see an employee still working at a time where most people her age would welcome retirement.

It is really good of the supermarket to keep her if that is what makes her happy. I hope she is not working for the money but for socialization and to lift her spirit up (as you mentioned). This is really impressive.

Wynnifred enjoys her work since it fills a void in her life at this time.

That's very amazing, there is no retirement age for her, maybe for as long as she is able to do that. Very ironic because in our place there are people in their 40s or 50's or younger going to our office and asking for money. Sometimes it is the guise of serenading though there is no occasion at all. This is acceptable during Christmas season.

I guess people who lived during the World War II generation just love to work and keep busy at their later years than the younger generations.

@Deepizzaguy these people experienced the hardest life while younger people are born in the time when automation began and depends on other people to do the job for them.

@florelway That is true since I do remember the days where computers were in their infancy.

I was happy to see that the Giant supermarket knows that senior citizens are reliable employees.

That is true since Wynnifred admitted that the odds of her working there at her age were against her.
