Family Trees

Decided to start a blog on my family tree. Not sure how far I'll get as it may be difficult tracking my mum's side. She had an interesting upbringing. It was like something out of a historic novel. She was born 'out of wedlock' to a servant working at a local manor house. It appears her father was the son of the household. She was not fostered by what I knew as my grandparents although Mum discovered they'd been paid to take her. She then got to mix with some of the more affluent members of the village and was encouraged not to play with the local kids. Later in life she was told that those well to do members of the community were friends of her father's family. On my father's side, his family way back in the early 18th century owned a large hall and masses of land at Crown Point. Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, the money disappeared but we do know that someone from the Money family moved to Canada ... a place called Crown Point! Does anyone else out there have any interesting ancestors?

I wish I'd started earlier. My mum and dad gave me the basics but my dad passed away almost 20 years ago and my mum is in a care home with dementia. If I had more money to throw at the project I'd get in touch with one of the numerous companies that help you. I've found one or two things out by searching on the internet. Family names can often show up on genealogy sites so try googling names for starters. Over here in the UK we have records offices around the country and church records - births, deaths and marriages - so, if you have time, you can contact them. Hope you get to find out something interesting ... if you do, let me know.

If you need a little push for your DNA test, I highly recommend it. I received mine about 3 years ago as a Christmas present and I find new cousins almost daily. True some of them are pretty distant, but I have found so many 2nd and 3rd cousins belonging to the brother's and sisters of my grandparents... :)

No I haven't ... but I have been very tempted!! I've been told by a distant relative that my family - the Moneys - are related to the artist Monet and I'd love to discover if that's true.

On both sides of my family it gets hard to trace because of native indian in there. Sadly many did not admit that they were.

Wow, you do have an interesting 'past'. I don't know that my ancestors are terribly interesting. Mostly just farming stock.

My mother is big into family tree and no interesting ancestors have been uncovered at least to me.
