Sick for 3 weeks. Being tested for Whooping Cough now....

Today officially makes it 3 weeks since I've been sick. It started off with headaches, earaches, sore throat and runny nose. Then all those symptoms left a few days later except the sore throat, both ears were going through some deafness ( middle ear was inflamed ) and I lost my voice. As for more recently, ears ( mainly left ) feel deaf every now and then, my voice is back which is great ( still not 100% but I can actually talk now ) but the sneezing and runny nose has made a comeback. And wonderful new symptoms of bad coughing fits and vomiting. So I saw my doctor today. My test results ( she swabbed my nose and throat last time I saw her ) showed nothing. I think those tests were to check for bacterial infection which is what the first doctor I saw told me I had. So she listened to me explain the symptoms I'm experiencing and she's thinking this could be Whooping Cough due to me having bad coughing fits and vomiting. She said my temperature was a bit high, oxygen was a bit low and my heart beat was ticking a bit fast. She swabbed my throat again to specifically check for Whooping Cough so I need to wait for those results. And I also had a chest X-Ray this afternoon. So yeah we shall see. Guess I shall keep you all updated. Til then I'm just waiting for results.

Hope your doctor gets to the bottom of this soon Dani, so that you can receive the proper medicine and treatment to help you start healing. I'm starting to get worried that I'm going to have to come there and take care of you myself. Give you a little personal TLC.

@VivaLaDani13 My daughter was coughing like crazy when I picked her up from work yesterday, and she said she was running a fever. Since she's had a bad cough for a month now, and the fact that I read your post about Whooping Cough, I decided to take her straight to the doctor. They took a chest x-ray and found that she has pneumonia. They put her on antibiotics right away. I'm really glad I decided to take her in, because otherwise she would have gone the whole weekend being sick, which would have given the pneumonia more time to strengthen in her chest.

@moffittjc oh my goodness! Poor girl! I'm glad you took her to the doctor too! Hoping she feels better soon as possible! I really really am happy you took action straight away! I'm relieved you did that and she is taking something for it now. How is she doing lately?

@moffittjc Me too. I'm seeing her Tuesday. I actually got called in to discuss the chest x-ray I took so can only guess something has been picked up. Which worries me a bit BUT makes me feel better that I wasn't told to come in immediately. As much as I feel awkward people doing things for me, I'd probably take you up on that lol If you were closer. ( though I still wouldn't ask for much at all. Think I just want company ) I'm so so exhausted. I just woke up from a not so long sleep due to coughing. So sitting up watching TV and MyLotting all rugged up.

@VivaLaDani13 Yeah! I'm been not around this past few days! Maybe I've been busy doing my job, and I missed the community and of course you! I'm so glad to see you once again! I guess we can't do anything right now just to wait for the result of the test and hoping that once the result been processed, the doctor will able to give you the right medicine for your fast recovery. Don't forget to take care of yourself! It's hard to be not healthy nowadays

@tech40 aw you sweet thing! I have missed you! I have been wondering where you have been. It's understandable you've been busy with work. Hard to work hard and MyLot a lot at the same time. Will do. Thank you so much! Really appreciate it!

Hope you will get well soon, the throat swab is important to identify the bacteria and what antibiotics the colonies in the agar culture are sensitive to

I thought that Pertussis was something that kids get, I am surprised that you could have this. If this is the case, the doctor should have suggested to stay at home, it is very contagious. Antibiotics cure whopping cough.

@VivaLaDani13 The doctor should have thought before to check for Pertussis. I can imagine how exhausted you are after two weeks of coughing, the antibiotics and everything. Do not worry, keep calm, everything will soon be fine.

@LadyDuck Thank you Anna. It always makes me feel better when people tell me it's all going to be ok in regards to health stuff. I actually didn't know Whooping Cough had another name for it. So you taught me something new!

@LadyDuck Babies can get it which is very dangerous because they can die which is really sad. But no adults can get it too. I found out that my Aunty had it many years ago as an adult so if I do have Whooping Cough I will ask her some questions about how she dealt with it. I've actually been through a box of antibiotics so I got told I'm not contagious. I took them around the 2nd week I was sick. But yeah staying home for sure either way. Feeling pretty exhausted today. Hard to sleep with coughing fits. Am going to the doctors on Tuesday to found out some results. Little bit nervous. I turn into a huge worry wart when it comes to health. I usually think the worst if I'm not familiar with what's happening / with symptoms I've never had before.

How many days it has been now? I am still stuck on 100 days!!!! That sucks. And there is no rest for you either with your Dad being sick right along with you.

@Daljinder 3 weeks and 5 days. No I was just telling Andrew how angry I am. Like I said, I would still be running around helping my dad regardless but if he went to the doctors earlier and got the right treatment, his symptoms may be less and not having me do literally everything. Even the small things. Blankets on him, take blankets off, heat packs, taking his temperature, hold glass while he sips water out, trying to keep up with house work ( Andrew isn't doing anything to help by the way ) making food if my dad can eat, keeping note of when he has any tablets, holding cold pack on his head to try break the fever and it goes on and on for way longer than it should. Sorry little rant there.

@VivaLaDani13 Dani, I saw this post and had to answer it before I go off the computer. I am so so sorry what you have been going through. That is horrible if you have whopping cough. I hope it will get cleared up for you. Take care.

@Hannihar Thank you so much for taking the time to read and answer this just before bed. It has been a bit difficult lately because I'm also looking after my dad who is unwell but not sure why he is unwell yet. I get my test results on Tuesday so I will know then whether or not I have Whooping Cough or something else but hopefully whatever it is will be over soon as possible. I'm really exhausted.
