Look! No apostrophe in the title! You know why? Because I didn't know that an apostrophe in the title will cause the system to come back with a "that discussion doesn't exist" message. JJ pointed that out to me today....I mean, yelled at me (keeping with the recent trend here
). Anyway, that's all leading up to this, the next -- and most obvious -- song on the list of favorites with "John" or "Johnny" in the title.
#4: Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
Did anyone seriously think this wasn't going to show up on the list?????
Rock's daddy singing what may well be rock's national anthem. If not, then it's dang close. Music is subjective, tastes are subjective, and all that, but let's face it: this is one of THE quintessential rock and roll songs.
And now, some hilarious trivia: back in 1965, Buck Owens, in defiance of the "Nashville Sound" era, took out a full-page ad in Music City News that he called "My Pledge to Country Music." In it, he declared he'd sing no song that wasn't a country song.
In 1969, Buck's version of "Johnny B. Goode" was a #1 country hit.
Bob Seger once sang, "All of Chuck's children are out there, playing his licks." Apparently so are his cousins!
Go, Johnny, go, indeed!

Oh my, but that little country boy could play:

Surprisingly, Buck did a pretty faithful cover. Don Rich was an animal on guitar, so it was no stretch at all for him to play it.
