The Gift of a Name

My sweet mother-in-law received a very special gift a few months before she died. She learned that her soon-to-be-born great granddaughter was going to be named after her! When my son told his grandma that they decided to give their new baby her name, she was so happy and honored. She shed a few tears of joy! My mom-in-law told the good news to her friends and all the staff at the nursing home where she lived. The baby was born in November 6th. My husband's mother died on November 30th. My new granddaughter received a special gift too. My mother-in-law was one of the most generous women I've ever known. One of the strongest too. Someday, our grandchild will understand what an honor it truly is to be named after her great grandmother.

Hi @Sheali. Thank you for your kind comments. Well said and I agree! The baby's middle name is the same as her other great grandmother. So the gift of her name is for both sides of her family.

What a beautiful honor, carrying on her great-grandmother's name! My daughter used her grandma's middle name, for their first daughter's middle name. Mom felt so honored, when she was told!
