Cleaning Up

Oh wow! Before my daughter left to go back to her university home today, I had her help me go through the games cupboards. We have 2 of 3 shelves each. In total we managed to empty one complete one and a small part of the other as there are games we just couldn't part with. My husband would have gotten rid of them all if he had his say. We also put some in the recycle bin - paper money, plastic parts, etc. And filled a whole bag of garbage. Then I continued to go on to the rest of the books I want to get rid of. She wanted to leave because it's blustering outside but didn't want me working alone. I told her I was fine and she could go. I still have a few more "Oprah Picks" books on my shelf that I can get rid of. There are actually gaps on a couple of shelves. I'm not messing around. It's time to part with this stuff. There is no way I'm going to make it on the treadmill today. I'm exhausted. I managed to find a box to put most of the books in but now it is way too heavy to lift and I know it's sitting in a spot where people will trip over it. I wish it was garage sale season. I want to get rid of all this stuff. I'm liking the way this house looks already if I can just get rid of the stuff. I still have to take a picture of all the jigsaw puzzles but above is a pic of the games.

It always feels gopd to get rid of things you no longer use.

We also KEPT some stuff we no longer use. My daughter was thinking way ahead. Didn't want to get rid of Clue (and we have two of them) because her children might like to play them. That is certainly looking way down the road for my daughter is graduating university this year.

@Happy2BeMe I kept all my Barbie stuff but neither one of my girls really cared for playing with Barbies. They just as soon colour on the items and dolls than play with them properly.

@patgalca I think that is a wonderful idea. I kept so much of my kids stuff and my grandchildren now love playing with the stuff.

@patgalca Isn't it a good feeling to get rid of things and have room to spare?

I haven't really gotten rid of anything yet. I will feel better when I can get this stuff out of the house. If I become impatient I may end out donating them.

@patgalca I wish I could help you because I love to help people do things like downsizing. I am going to hopefully help someone next week.

I am trying to get rid of stuff bit by bit in this house too. My husband would get rid of stuff in one big swoop too if we allowed it - but I'd rather go through everything myself. Well good that you got some extra shelf room now!

My husband and daughter's fiance did do some cleaning one day when I wasn't home. I was upset at first but it turns out that I think they only cleaned out the garage. My mother's headboard better still be in there!

@patgalca We've got a bunch of stuff in the garage too. I'd want to go through it myself too. But now my husband has his parents old things in there, so he is not quick to throw out things at the moment! I hope your mother's headboard is still there too!

I'm in the process of doing the same thing with my kitchen cabinets. It's a bigger undertaking than I expected but it will be nice when the project is finished. Hope you can get rid of your stuff sooner rather than waiting for garage sale season.

Any kitchen stuff I put away for my kids. My daughter is engaged and they are looking for a house. They won't be able to afford to furnish a house so I'm keeping stuff (which my husband thinks we should throw away), but I'm sure they will be grateful to have the stuff when they realize how little they really have.

@patgalca smart idea. I remember starting out and how grateful I was for stuff relatives donated.

It's a cleansing process so to speak.

I think it's one of the reasons I'm not very productive, and probably depressed as well.
