The internet and cable went down.

Yep, both.
It happened at around 4:30 PM. It was down for around an hour, maybe a little over. There was nothing to be done, it was a widespread outage, and no it didn't have anything to do with the weather. It was something to do with wiring.
I read for a few minutes. It had been awhile since I'd read from A Parchment of Leaves, I need to make an effort to read more of it.
It was quiet. A different type of quiet from when the power is out. We could still hear the buzz of the aircon system, of the lights, of the fan in my room. It was a different type of quiet but a good type of quiet.
Do you find time to just be quiet? No TV, No Internet?

Part of the hour was wasted as I waited for a family member to call spectrum. They did and ended up calling the wrong number, they then called my aunt to see if she had internet. While they were talking I grabbed my phone, spent two minutes finding the right number and another three to get informed that the outage was widespread and there was no time table on when it'd be back on.
Sometimes it's easier to just do things yourself.
I become unpleasant when I do not get my "decompression time" as I call it. Which is me doing whatever I want to do without anyone bothering me about it.

@Courage7 The family member's way of handling things like that is so backwards from mine. Fifeteen minutes wasted trying to find the answer online before they conceded and decided to look for the phone number to call. I would have simply called to begin with. I can't say much because half of it is something they can't help, it's just the way they are now.

Glad it wasn't off longer than that for you....I don't know what I'd do if both went off (well we don't have cable, but still).

I do better when the power is out, I can always find something to do. I'll often turn on a flashlight or battery operated lights and just read. I've even been known to just sit and think, or sit and listen to others talk.
Growing up, when the power went out we wold just tell stories.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well that is good to hear that you can always find something to do. I am sure we could too, just prefer not to lol. Sitting and thinking is good, and telling stories!

@MommyOfEli2013 Everyone is different, of course.
Yes the stories? Those were almost always about my grandparents, parents or aunts and uncles growing up.

Sometimes I do. I don't like it when it is too quiet though generally..although it is good for reading or napping, or even contemplating.

It's good to be that way every once in awhile. Just let nothing but the thoughts in our head guide us. Of course, sometimes the thoughts in our heads get away with us.

When I first get up I like it to be quite and nothing going on in the background, I get my coffee going and then I will get on here and other things.

I have a routine too. I get up and turn on my wax burner. I turn on the laptop as I pass by and then go to the kitchen and turn on the kettle. Once that's set to boiling I will go to the bathroom. Then go back to the kitchen and pour myself a cup of tea. Back to my room I go where I settle in with internet stuff while instrumental / calming music plays in the background.
I can't listen to any other kind of noise until I'm fully awoke.

It's funny, I put in my phone number so that they would call when everything came back on. Of course, I knew that it would all come back on before we got the call. I was right. It cut back on an hour or so after it went off, and they just called me today to let me know that it was back on.
I prefer things quiet, or at the very least, relatively so.

My favourite time is bath time. Me and a book, or me and my thoughts. Perfect.

I guess..No? As i have to have noise. So either have tv on or music playing. Or kids running their mouths

We were out of power for a day and a half and our internet was down for four days when that ice-storm blew through a few weeks back. I enjoy the quiet, but it was very frustrating for my college/university students who need the internet for class.
