I'm a pretty verbose person myself, but there is a lady here at the shelter that never stops talking. It's become a bit annoying, and I am usually not one to complain. I try to be understanding and compassionate to all the types of persons that walk through those doors. Tired, beat down, frustrated and alone. The path to heaven leads through miles of clouded hell, it's a line from an Imagine Dragons song and it rings especialy true to me. Because I do have a purpose here on this Earth to help others, to bring light to the darkness. I try to listen patiently, but sometimes I just tune her out, there are 58 other bleeding hearts, and everyone deserves a turn. How do you handle someone like this? I don't want to be mean, because maybe nobody listened to her and that is why she is here. Lots of shelter residents have family close by, and it's a kicker to be told by anyone that you don't deserve to be loved or to have a roof over your head. I consider the common room my office, and today I feel a bit like a therapist. Until 10, and then I have kitchen duty where I will be in charge of cutting desserts. It's not so bad here really, and I am grateful.
