fibbing of flurries

United Kingdom

Much of Australia gets a heatwave. Much of North America gets a Polar Vortex {which to me sounds like a film about bears in space}. Meanwhile, England - my bit, anyway - is umming and ahhing over whether the weather should be unseasonably warm, unseasonably cold, snowy, rainy, windy, frosty, icy ... Make. Up. Your. Mind. {Say I, to the weather.} My weather app - supported by the Met Office - informs me that my small, flat town is currently suffering from heavy snow. I was very excited. Until I peeked through the curtains and discovered that it was fibbing. No snow here, kids, unless mine eyes deceiveth me. Oh, wait. I spy snow. Through the grubby bus windows, and the darkness of a cloudy pre-sunrise morning, I can just make out patches of white on grass and parked cars in this little village we pass through. As a brief aside, this bus driver is really violent. Not physically, obviously. Heavens! No, just with his speedy-brakey driving. I've nearly ended up on the chap in the seat in front of me at least five times, and an empty bottle has whizzed from the very back of the bus, to the very front. It hurtled past, it did. And now, twelve miles from home, there is a bit more snow. But it will be gone within hours, and winter will be over before it's begun. Also, the bus is starting to fill up with people. Soon the silence will exist no more and I shall feel the need to listen to inane and inconsequential conversations which are best left unspoken. Niece day today. She's four now, don't you know? So much personality, so much chatter, so many moments of delightfulness. So much relief that I can simply pass her back to Mum & Dad at the end of the day! Stay warm, stay cool, stay happy.

Switzerland has the same weird weather. Yesterday morning it looked like Spring, sunny warm, beautiful. By 5 pm the snow came and it is still snowing, but not too cold at least. Your niece is growing up, she surely love to ask plenty of questions now.

She does! She also loves to role-play. Today I had to be Dad, a pirate and the wicked Queen from Snow White. I'm thoroughly exhausted now. :)

Extremes are really awful in my opinion. I'm happy we have temperatures in the midrange here in the tropics. But storms do come now and then.

@poppylicious Deceitful elves, those weather folk. Apparently Belfast too is sitting under snow but I know better. If the news is telling lies about the weather, what lies might it be telling us about Brexit, Megan and Charley the Downing Street cat?

I'm usually happy with England's weather, but it's annoying when the forecast fluctuates so much!

I know how you feel - I spent yesterday on a school trip with a coachload of 6-year-olds! Today we actually have some proper snow here - anough to play in. Sadly I have work to do but hope to go out for a bit before dark!

The snow got worse as my journey continued. They'd had a fair bit in the town where my niece lives. Not enough for a Snow Day - the roads were clear - but enough to build a small snow monster in the garden!

I've often wondered how chaotic the world would be if we were all as incompetent in our jobs as the weather forecasters. And then I ring any call centre and find out!!!

@Poppylicious I doubt I'd have to strive!

To be fair, I think I'd strive to be as incompetent as possible if I worked for peanuts in a call centre!

Kids are fun to be with even if they have this big personality. It.must be hard living in cold countries because of their polar vortex and so on

I'd rather be in a Polar Vortex than a heatwave. Yikes! I can't stand the heat.

@Poppylicious oh yeah. More people die from heatwave than people dying from winter
