I was reminded by a news article this morning that July is the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. I was nine at the time and I can remember going into school and spending most of the morning watching the landing on the school's black and white TV. We had no lessons that morning, but before lunch we were told that the afternoon would be spent writing an essay on what we'd seen. Needless to say, some of the kids had spent the morning mucking about at the back of the gym hall (where the TV was set up) but thankfully I'd actually enjoyed watching the coverage. I'm sure the US will be celebrating the event but I hope the UK will too. It was such a momentous part of human history and I'd like modern kids to get to see original footage so they can see just what a huge feat it was at that time.

We went to a friend's house to watch it but it was the middle of the night and reception wasn't good and in the end we gave up and went home.

We are about the same age lol, classes were suspended in our school so we could watch it, yes on black and white T.V. All of us were hoping that the U.S. would beat the Russians to it ( the cold war was still on going that time)

I'd be glad if the US beat the Russians at anything!!! They're not a very stable lot are they?

@olliesmum yes they are not but their Soyuz was in space first, I remember my aunts telling me they placed a dog in orbit while the Americans sent a chimp. Anti Russian feelings was very strong during our time, we were taught they were the enemy togther with the Warsaw pact countries.

50 years! My God! I remember staying up really late to watch Armstrong step onto the moon. That happened at about 4.30 am our time. I'll never forget it and I'm glad I could say I was 'a part of it' - kinda at any rate
