Eating heavy food before bedtime brings nightmares?

My parents always told me this when I was a child. After I grew up, I continued to have some nightmares because I internalized it.
However, nowadays... I think the scientific explanation for that is just an intern discomfort because the stomach takes time to process the food in that period (because it slows down and could be "explain" the nightmares).
What do think about this?

For me, eating heavy food before bed would result in an upset stomach and difficulty sleeping rather than nightmares.

I think food plays a part but there are other forces that are around also.

Since dreams come out o the unconscious mind, it is unclear to me where my dreams come from.

I can eat heavy and go to bed. But for some it might add to it.

People are different, thankfully. It would be awful if we were all alike.

Dreams come out of the unconscious mind, so lots of things going on there.

Wouldn’t be true. Your stomach has nothing to do with nightmares. Nightmare comes from your Brian in the deep subconscious of your brain where all dreams are made. We have dreams to help us deal with things to hear are really feelings and thoughts that we don’t always express. Fears are something we don’t always expresses and children have them often it’s partnod growing it’s very common for children to go through a stage around age 2-3 to have night terrors where they have nightmares almost every night.

@WiseGhots thanks! Some times I look for the most logical answer. But it’s true all child experience might terriors it’s nkt my favorite stage of life’s. Kids re dealing with a lot at that age and there brains jsut ant keep up.

I do seem to have more dreams if I have eaten too much too close to bedtime.

I guess I am glad I do not eat late at night. I believe anytime you can have nightmares and not just if you eat late at night.

Well, we should not sleep right after a heavy meal as it is not good for health.
For me if I eat heavy, for eg pizza, I will have good dreams, as we believe you dream of what you think about before you sleep.. so pizzas on my mind and pizzas in my dreams..

I think that people can somewhat control dreams by what they think about before going to sleep.
