Bits and pieces at Parachilna, South Australia

In 2018 we enjoyed a caravanning holiday in Australia. We drove east to spend some time with our son then put the car and caravan on the ferry to go to Tasmania. Later, we went northwards in South Australia into the Flinders Ranges and to a place called Parachilna.
We had lunch at the Prairie Hotel and I’ve written about it before as we had the feral platter which consisted of kangaroo fillet, emu pate, camel salami and wild goat’s cheese. You can read more of my Flinders Range discussions if you click one the green buttons above the photo.
But what I wanted to share this time is a collage of some of the bits and pieces at the hotel. The train is cleverly constructed and I like the dog. The horse I’ve used before but perhaps some of you haven’t seen it.

There seems to be a lot of that kind of folk art down there.

@JudyEv that is a wonderful piece of artwork. Makes me just feel like sitting up on the horse.

The Ghan is named after the Afghan cameleteers who took camel trains all over the outback before the introduction of rail and decent roads. The Ghan goes from Adelaide in the south through Alice Springs to Darwin in the north. Val from NZ has been on it and wrote about it on here. I love train travel but like the old steam trains with their wonderful rhythm.

@xFiacre The Ghan goes back and forth a couple of times a week. Val is going to Melbourne later in the year and I just might catch up with her this time if we can coordinate visiting our son at the same time although that's looking less likely now. I wonder how her swimming competitions are going.

The pate was delicious and the rest were okay. The roo was a bit tough and perhaps strong tasting and the camel was fine too. The dog was made of iron. This horse is made from horse-shoes. Every town seemed to have artwork of this type.

I'm not sure what you mean about 'linking'. I take care with my tags now but that is more for my own benefit to work out if I have already posted about something. From time to time I have put links to a second post at the bottom of a discussion.

It's cleverly done. The elements are quite some distance apart but from the front it's very impressive.

The pate was great. I'd have that any day. The roo was a bit tough but the taste was fine, perhaps a bit on the strong side. The camel wasn't much different to any other salami - except a lot more expensive!
