Disclaimer: All of the below is just my personal opinion. No endorsement of the novel or the author. A Christmas get together of a big family with sons and daughter in laws and grand daughters and a friends' son would be a great time for a family. However, what if the family has =>A cunning, womanising and tyrant father who did not treat his wife and kids well. =An obedient son who does not show revolt and carries on his family duties in an orderly way but harbours an inner grudge against his tyrant father. =Two sons who do not see an eye to eye with their father. =A son whose nature the father likes, but who is not so good at making his own living. =A grand daughter of a daughter who marries a foreigner against father's wishes. Add to that some dissatisfied daughter in laws and a few mysterious looking domestic servants. So we have a calmness that is hiding a coming storm. And then we have a calamity. The father is murdered, in a grotesque manner! Enters Belgian detective Poirot and his police helpers. The case looks very complex in the starting. All clues cause more confusion and less clarity. However, Poirot, with his keen observation and logical deduction powers finally manages to nail down the victim. An end so shocking, and unthinkable. Yet perhaps that is what keeps one engrossed. A must for crime thriller readers! And if you are an Agatha Christie-Poirot fan, I think you might have already read this one. If not, do give it a try! @LadyDuck yes TV series are often adapted as per director's preference or who are playing the role.

I haven't read the book. I want to read some of hers and watch some of the movies. Right now I'm still reading Salem's Lot by Stephen King.
