Ah, spring. I know the groundhog "predicted" an "early spring," but INSTANT spring? I left the house this morning and took my jacket off before I got to the garage. Looks like I'll be watching the weather this evening, though. But first, a great song from our sponsor: songwriters who could create different songs, but not different titles! Here's today's double gem. #2: Breakdown YOU'RE PROBABLY THINKING: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers I MEAN: Alan Parsons Project Well, in actuality, I have both songs on my iPod. Can't go wrong with either, in my opinion. One of the benefits of living in Florida in 1977-78 was getting to hear Tom Petty before the rest of the world did. As he was a Gainesville boy, stations in Orlando and Daytona Beach felt "obligated" to play him. And I was hooked almost immediately, because he didn't sound like Lynyrd Skynyrd. However, there was another "Breakdown" that came out in 1977: the Alan Parsons Project. Their second album was their second literary-based concept album (following their debut Tales of Mystery and Imagination), inspired by Isaac Asimov's I, Robot. While the "hit" from the album was "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You," my favorite from the album was this song, with lead vocals by former Hollies member Alan Clarke. I love the instrumental opening. (I don't know, maybe I'm a sucker for opening bass riffs.) Truth be told, I love both songs. It's all right if I love both. It's all right if I don't! THE ONE YOU'RE PROBABLY THINKING: Written by Tom Petty Recorded by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers From Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, 1977 THE ONE I MEAN: Written by Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson Recorded by the Alan Parsons Project From I Robot, 1977 Is it any wonder I'm confused:

Although I like Alan Parsons Project prefer Petty's version of Breakdown. The Project's often played Eye In The Sky is a wonderful tune I never get tired of hearing and their most successful chart release
