Before you say it, I know today's song is a cover. But this is the version that I grew up with, so it's the one that's sliding into the next slot on my list of favorite songs that have "people" in the title. Then again...this song is so old some of you might not even know the original!
Here it is.
#4: Love of the Common People - Waylon Jennings
Waylon said that the lyrics "were especially meaningful for a poor country boy." Nashville was full of them, too: you may have heard stories about Willie Nelson selling the rights to his songs to buy groceries or pay his rent (Claude Gray's hit "Family Bible" was written by Willie but not credited to him until recently for that very reason). And, with that great Waylon Jennings voice, he made you feel "the hole in your shoe lets the snow come through, and it chills to the bone."
As I said, this was the version I grew up with, being a country music kid. The original, however, was by the Four Preps. And, for your daily dose of trivia, their rendition was arranged by "Wrecking Crew" musician Leon Russell.
Heartwarming song, either way, showing you what's most important in life.

Hell, I didn't know it was a cover because I never heard of it before. Ol' Waylon doesn't seem much like an outlaw in this rendition.

You wanna hear him REALLY not sound like an outlaw? (PS -- he won a Grammy for this!)

You think people are people is going to be number 1? That guy has a deep voice, how come I can't sing like him? My country voice is actually not bad its when I try to rock. Nice song,. Nice family song indeed.

This was NICE Four Walls. Brought back some great memories. Dino is feeling down and just told me to call hospice Monday. This was perfect timing running across it just now.

@FourWalls We've gone through a lot these last couple of years. I know you weren't thinking of us when you posted this, nevertheless you inadvertently just gave me and my husband a great trip down memory lane for the last hour. He seems to be feeling more cheerful and lively now.
Thank you So Much

Yes indeed. They came out about the same time, which really wasn't all that uncommon: you can go back to the 40s and find R&B singers covering country songs -- and vice versa!
