Pub Sign Photo Poem North Leeds

I have meant to create poems inspired by pub sign art for a while. This is the first I have come up with. The pub, called North, is in Leeds, Yorkshire. We are three standard French stereotypes Beret wearing cartoon caricatures Short of onion strings, but with our pipes Though we live due South of your coastal shores Joined by our amazing Channel Tunnel While Brexit rends our union undone And you close your bars hoping to funnel Asset stripping profits South to London There are lots of West Bank Parisian pubs Pouring wine and Champagne in prosperity While you shut down all your finest nightclubs. Inns closed through corporate austerity Killing off Britain’s greatest tradition. Doing far more damage than Prohibition Arthur Chappell

I read about the French coming over with their bikes and onions in days gone by. These guys are so obviously French. Great poem too.

@arthurchappell Personally I think there is much too much political correctedness.

It might be a bit easier to read if you did a bit of spacing but I wouldn't know where exactly although I did see your rhymes for the most part. I think this would ring more with us on this side of the pond if we were familiar with the things of which you speak, but if you can include these one day in your books that may be a nice addition for those that enjoy the older traditions.

@MarshaMusselman It is quite Anglicized (lots of references are to stuff British readers will recognize). Brexit is the current British process of seperating ourselves from the European Union, voted for by a narrow majority but proviing costly and dangerous to impliment - it could bring down the government here - I was opposed to Brexit from the start.

@arthurchappell I do remember that term from back when battery was talking about the possible changes. I did realize it's written more for your people but the rest of us can learn and enjoy the writings. That's exactly how the Bible should be ready and understood. It was written mostly to those in that culture and many ideas are cultural and we'll never fully understand them. But we can learn and enjoy what were reading. Thank you for bringing those two ideas together for me. I'm sure that wasn't your intent, but if you think about this perspective the next time you do your research you may actually understand it better.

Ah, made a point without sounding like me all political. Like what you did there.
