Diary Tuesday 12th February 2019
The local community food run today. I normally go early to chat with other community members in the café attached to the centre but that is closed for a month for an extensive refurbishment after it was flooded by water from a burst pipe so I never got to see everyone this time.
A friend recently sent me an invite to a party he I having at his houe which is over 200 miles from where I live. My invite was sent to a whole group of his friends, not just me exclusively.
As he is normally a very good friend and I’d get a day to explore his home city too on my way to the party, I told him I was happy to come along if he can ‘put me up for the night’, meaning any floor space would do, not a bedroom, etc. He sent me a message back telling me he had no more room at the house but he would try to arrange accommodation with his neighbours and get back to me.
Another friend, who lives even further away from him than I do told him she and her partner wanted o go. He replied immediately that he would sort a bed out for them (after telling me he had no space). She actually declined the offer, as she wants to stay in a hotel nearby, but he never got back to me about the same apparent bed. It isn’t like I wanted preferential treatment, the master bedroom, quail’s eggs for breakfast, delivered on velvet cushions, etc.
I sent a message saying I’m not going to the party. I told him it would be expensive, being just a month before a London stay I have coming up the following month, which is true, but my real motive for not going is the sense of him picking and choosing favourites among his friends for preferential treatment. I felt as if it is a two tier party, elite really wanted guests and then the rest of us.
Another friend told him he wasn’t going to the party, to which he replied that he never expected anyone from far away to go anyway. I sent a reply that he had seen interest from me and the married couple already and we are also from further afield. He started posting his messages individually after that rather than to the group as a whole. Ridiculous. Why send invites to people if you don’t want them to go, or can’t accommodate them anyway?
Diary Wednesday 13th February 2019
The local book club had its monthly meeting today, which went really well. I got the next book for reading, which I’ll review once I have covered it.
Diary Thursday 14th February 2019 Valentine’s Day
I thought I had some voluntary work on today but I had missed the memo cancelling it (my fault as it had been sent out). I went to the local job club instead to update my job search paper for the welfare services to see.
I wrote a few Valentine’s Day poems and messages.
Diary Friday 15th February 2019
As the weather was really nice I took a long, five mile walk to see some pub signs and countryside which went really well.
Diary Saturday 16th February 2019
