People, People, PEOPLE! Top Ten: Games People Play (They Just Can’t Stop It) (#1)

Okay, people, it’s over. I’ve been counting down my favorite songs that have “people” in the title. That ends today. And, hey, haven’t you seen this song title before? Yep, but... Anyway, here’s my favorite “people” song.
#1: Games People Play (They Just Can’t Stop It) - Spinners
In fact, before the Alan Parsons Project muddied the water with another song called “Games People Play” the record label put the parenthetical title “They Just Can’t Stop It” to this song (which is simply “Games People Play” on the album) when it was released as a single to make sure people didn’t think this was the Joe South song.
Oh, no, it’s not even close. Where South’s song was angry about what was going on, this is more from the perspective of the person playing game (“can’t get no rest, don’t know how I work all day”). It was delivered with a superb blend of pop, R&B, and jazz. It was one of my favorites of the mid-70s.
And it’s still one of my favorites.
