Ever heard of "April showers"? / myLot

I just came across these words "April showers" and wondered what they meant. At my home town in Goa, India, April is one of the most unpleasant month, since it is summer time, with mercury rising to astronomical levels and very high humidity. It never rains in April, but there are some sporadic showers during end of May - what we call pre-monsoon showers. After Googling, I found that these words are part of a proverb " April showers bring May flowers" - and this rhyme was originally a short poem. Does it rain in the month of April in your country?

Spring (April) in Serbia is an unstable season, characterized by mild periods alternating with the return of cold weather, during which late snow falls can occur,in March and sometimes even in April. May may be a very rainy month.

@LowRiderX Ok!, but here in Goa, India we have only three seasons - Summer from March to May, rainy season (Monsoon) from June to August and Winter from end of November to End of Feb. During the period from End of August to end of November there are sporadic showers and the climate is hot and humid.

I have heard that saying all my life and it sure has rained here for days and long periods of times so maybe i will see some flowers soon i hope .. I love the flowers but had enough showers lol

In England (and much of Europe), April is the month when the weather begins to get warmer and short but often heavy bouts of rain are common. There are many verses which celebrate this from Chaucer in the 14th Century ("Whan that Aprille, with his shoures soote the droghte of March hath perced to the roote" - "When April with it's sweet showers has pierced the drought of March to the root") to the more recent "March winds and April showers Bring forth May's flowers."

In the eastern coast of India( near Kolkata) the weather is different). However,in April we have one or two strong winds and showers. It is more like storms.
